Teen Reach

I volunteered my time doing the Teen Reach Program that is offered in Charleston. This is a program where children can go to after school and get help with their homework or can socially hang out with their friends.
It is a free service that is offered to children whose parents cannot afford daycare or after school care for their child. It is important as an FCS professional to know about this type of service that is offered in the Charleston area.
There are many things that a disadvantaged family goes without and being able to afford child care is one of those things. As a student networking is very important and I felt that by volunteering there is gave me an opportunity to meet people who do this for a living every day. The people who work there are always very upbeat and happy and try to give the children the best experience they can every day.
There are many things that this can do for the community. They take donations of any kind and are able to give things to the people in the community that need them. They take things such as toilet paper, pens, pencils, household items, cleaning supplies, and things like that.
I like volunteering places because it gives you an idea of what other people go through every day. It makes me have a better perspective on life and learn to appreciate the things that I do have.
